China's 2Q 2008 Projector Focus: New
Product Launches

2Q 2008 shipments of projectors in China
reached 173.5 thousand, up 17.2% YOY, while revenues reached 2.24 billion
Yuan, up 16.1% YOY. China project active seasons are summer and winter.
Vendors typically launch new products during the second quarter. The 2008
Beijing Olympics will stimulate further product promotions, although such
activity has been offset somewhat by the May Sichuan earthquake in China.

Top five vendors for the quarter, in terms
of shipments, were Toshiba, Epson, Sony, Hitachi and BenQ, with a combined
shipment share of 52%, up 1.1% YOY. New product introductions have improved
over the same quarter in 2007, with Panasonic and Epson having exceptionally
strong product showings for the quarter.

The 2008 Beijing Olympics Bird's Nest and
Water Cube stadiums inspire the introduction of higher-end projectors. New
product and activity highlights for 2Q08 in China are as follows:
Panasonic
- An Olympic TOP partner, Panasonic works
with Donview to provide high-end projector services to the 2008 Beijing
Olympic Games.
- In April, launches six new projectors
targeted towards China's education sector. New projectors not only have
dustproof housing and long-lasting bulbs, but also easier maintenance.
- New products include some widescreen,
wireless PX and X series—PT-PW880NT, PT-PX880NT, PT-PX870NE and
PT-PX860PT-X600 and PT-X500.
- In May, works with Chinese regional
partner SUMPO to launch high-end PT-BX100NT, targeted towards commercial
enterprises.
Epson
- In May, launches EMP-DM1 in Beijing.
- In June, launches G series projectors
during InfoComm 2008 exhibit.
InFocus
- Launches its X7 projectors.
Hitachi
- Flagship HCP-A8 projectors win
education sector bid in Chengdu and Nanjing.
Haier
- HR-805 projectors win education sector
bid in Zhengzhou.
NEC
- NP100+ projectors win education sector
bid in Shanxi.
Sharp
- In June, Sharp holds DLP national show
and tour.
Mitsubishi Electric
- Expects to launch its 720P HD home
theater projector HC1600 in August
