Chinese Customers Recognizing IT
Services Value
January 10, 2008
China's leading enterprises'
IT departments are transitioning form a purely technical internal support
role to that of a technology business partner with other departments and
business units. These IT departments are demanding IT strategy, planning and
implementation services in addition to product.
This leading indicator is
supported by a recent CCID Consulting survey of Chinese enterprise IT
departments. A very high 70% of respondents indicate that there is "value" in
IT services. However, at the same time, a good percentage also indicated
that they are not clear what the actual "value" is. Respondents are not
clear on how to evaluate the criteria of IT services value.

Part of this confusion can be attributed to the IT services vendors
themselves. Many lack the requisite expertise and skills to meet the needs
of their clients. Clients know they need help, but rely on IT services
vendors to clarify what they need, and how to achieve solutions to their
needs. This is especially true in strategy and planning.
IT services spending will
increase by major industries such as China's financial services. And leading
multinational IT services vendors will seek to address such services needs.
As we see bigger IT services vendors competing, we expect to see more
consolidation of IT services vendors in China.
